Diagnosis: Maury
(1976) diagnosed the subfamily as follows:
"Ammotrechidae con los tarsos de las patas II, III y IV con 2
segmentos. Segmento basal de los tarsos más de dos veces
el largo del segmento distal. Tarso de los pedipalpos articulado,
móvil. Segundo esternito post-espiracular sin pelos espiniformes
en hilera. Flagelo del macho como un brana semielíptica, algo
cóncava."
[Ammotrechidae
with the tarsi of legs II, III and IV with 2 segments. Basal
segment of the tarsus more than twice the length of the distal
segment. Tarsus of pedipalp articulated, movable. Second
post-spiracular sternite without row of spiniform setae.
Flagellum of male in form of semi-ellíptical membrane, slightly
concave.]
