Serradigitus wupatkiensis with first-instar offspring on her back.
Note the ordered
arrangement, wherein each first-instar scorpion is facing forward and is in
contact
with the cuticle. The chelicerae and pedipalps are still largely
undeveloped and cannot
be used to capture or manipulate prey.

Serradigitus gertschi striatus with second-instar offspring on her
back. At this age.
the young scorpions are ready to disperse, and have abandoned the orderly
arrangement characteristic of first-instar offspring in members of this
genus.
The pedipalps and chelicerae are now functional, and a pattern of
pigmentation is now eveident.
