Class

Sanders, 1955

The Class Cephalocarida is represented in California by Lightiella serendipita.  Originally described from San Francisco Bay, L. serendipita is one of only seven known members of this primitive group of crustaceans, all of which are placed in a single order (Brachypoda Birshteyn, 1960), which in turn includes but one family (Hutchinsoniellidae Sanders, 1955).
We have not been fortunate enough to encounter a specimen to photograph.
