Genus Ammotrecha Banks 1900

Cleobis Simon, 1879a: 145-146; Simon, 1879c: 78; Kraepelin, 1899b: 238-239 [junior homonym of Cleobis Dana, 1847 (Mollusca)].

Diagnosis:  Roewer (1934) characterized the genus as follows:

"Ammotrechinae, deren 2. und 3. Tarsus ventral mit jeweils 1.2.2.1 Dornen und deren 4. Tarsus ventral mit 2.2/2/2.1 Dornen bewehrt ist (Abb. 335, b, h); Cheliceren am unbeweglichen Finger mit 2 Vorderzähnen vor dem Zwischenzahn und am beweglichen Finger mit 1 medialen Wangenzahn neben dem Hauptzahn (Abb. 337, d-f)."

[Ammotrechinae whose 2nd and 3 Tarsus each bear 1.2.2.1 ventral spines and whose 4th tarsus bears 2.2/2/2.1 ventral spines (Fig. 335, b, h).  Immovable finger of chelicerae with 2 anterior teeth in front of the median tooth and movable finger with 1 medial cheek tooth next to the main tooth (Fig. 337, d-f).]

Muma (1971b):  Ammotrechinae with six (1, 2, 2, 1) lateroventral spinelike setae on tarsi of legs II and III, 9 (2, 2-2-2, 1) lateroventral spinelike setae on tarsi of leg IV, mesal tooth on movable cheliceral finger, and two anterior teeth on fixed cheliceral finger.

Type species:  Galeodes limbata Lucas, 1835a, by subsequent designation of Pocock, 1902c: 64 [see Harvey, 2001a: 196-198].

Distribution:  United States, Mexico, Central America, and Brazil.
