Members of the family Hexisopodidae occur in southern Africa. The
25 known species are distributed among two genera: Chelypus
(9 species) and Hexisopus (15
species). They are readily distinguished from other
members of the order Solifugae by the lack of claws on the fourth pair
of legs.
